Did you know that in excess of 82% of all boating incidents reported last year were due to boats breaking down? Preparation is key to making sure you don't get into strife on the water. Maintenance doesn't have to be a chore - get into the routine and maintain your boat.
Just remember four key things:
Make sure you get your motor serviced at least once a year. Keep an eye out for any faults and remember, if in doubt - don't go out.
Clean out your fuel tank once a year with a suitable solvent, and inspect the fuel tank and lines for cracks or leaks. Never go out with old fuel and remember to have enough fuel for the entire trip.
If your battery fails when you're out on the water, you could be stranded for hours. Keep your battery secure and always charged. Don't forget to test all equipment that uses
the battery before you head out.
Keep your boat in good shape, give it some love and care by keeping bilges clean and dry. Clean out drain holes and check for leaks. Salt water is a highly corrosive liquid so make sure you keep your boat clean and dry.
